I know we still have three months to go, but it really feels like the end of the year is right around the corner! And as we look into the incoming season, the designer in me gets the itch to look into color and texture trends for 2019.
It’s really interesting doing the research for a post like this, because I look at materials from the U.S. and Europe, where we’re heading into Fall and Winter, and back home in South America, where they’re heading into Spring and Summer. Usually, the trends overlap but have some distinctive differences. This time around, though, I’ve seen a lot more similarities than in previous years!
I’ve been thinking a lot about paint colors since we have yet to paint our house. We bought it in July of last year, hoping to have so many more projects done a year and a bit in… Don’t get me wrong, we’ve still done a lot of work to it, but having a historic home (ours was built in 1892!) means that you run into unexpected projects—like rewiring different rooms and moving light switches.
Anyway! Let’s dive into the colors that will move us into 2019.
Colors
Deep teal
This color is having a major moment right now in both fashion and interior design. It adds immediate class and seriousness to any environment, and looks wonderful as both an accent and as a dominant color.
Mustard Yellow
To be completely honest, it’s taken me a while to warm up to yellow, in all its variations. Partly because I’m so pale and am afraid to look like a walking egg… But I’ve been loving it as a decor color, and think it exudes personality.
Dusty lilac
I love that lilac is making its way back into decor, this time as a gender-neutral color. In its latest variation, it makes any environment instantly more cozy and inviting.
Dusty rose
Dusty rose is the continuation (and evolution) of the millennial pink trend. Unlike its earlier counterpart, dusty rose is less fresh and more vintage—comforting but still airy.
Emerald green
My absolute favorite of the bunch! I’ve loved seeing emerald taking up gradually more space, Whether it’s through beautifully crafted upholstery, art, or paint, it turns up the elegance and adds so much personality to any space.
Deep red
A deep, but still lively red. It’s elegant, it’s cozy, and packs a punch. Honestly, I’m not that big a fan of red as a big color in decor. Our living room is this color and, to me, it’s a little too much. If it’s your style though, go for it!
Black
A surprising trend I’ve noticed pop up in so many different places! A black accent wall, or even painting the backs of bookcases in black, can completely change a room. Depending on how its styled, black can make a space more elegant, cozy, or moody.
Which of these trends are you the most excited about? Which other ones have you noticed that may not be on this list? Share your thoughts in the comments!
