Liquid Lipsticks: The Best of Both Worlds

Liquid Lipsticks banner image02

I definitely took a while to jump onto the liquid lipsticks bandwagon. Between regular lipsticks, glosses, balms, and lip stains, I thought I had all the possible variations of lip products. Little did I know that once I ventured into the world of liquid lipsticks, I’d never look back!

Here is a review of the liquid lipsticks currently in my collection. I’m curious to know which ones you have and which are your favorites!

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Créme in Hot Cocoa

This was my very first liquid lipstick, which I received from Influenster. Since it was my first experience with this category, I didn’t know what to expect. I really enjoyed the packaging, which allows you to see the shade, and the weight. The packaging truly reflects the brand, and has a sophisticated yet modern look to it.

It has a really creamy texture, and the scent makes is mouthwatering! The coverage is fantastic—one swipe is enough to give your lips an intense shade. Unfortunately, what it has in coverage it lacks when it comes to lasting power. It leaves that unflattering stain on glasses and there isn’t much left on the lips after using a napkin (even without rubbing). Since I do enjoy the color, I decided to keep it but confess that I don’t reach for it as often because I’m too lazy and busy to keep reapplying it.

Pros: coverage, sophisticated packaging, hydrating formula

Cons: low lasting power

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow’n’Arrow

Imagine a liquid lipstick that last an eternity on your lips—this is it! Before trying Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, I didn’t think it was possible for liquid lipsticks to hav this kind of lasting power. It really changed my standard for quality in this category! It’s easy to apply and its long, thin packaging makes it perfect to carry in your bag without adding much volume.

Once it dries, this baby will be with you for much of the day. I can wear it for hours without needing to retouch, even after drinking water or eating snacks. Bow’n’Arrow is a very 90s color, a nude that pulls a little brown. In fact, it was my shade of choice at a 90s party I went to recently.

Pros: convenient packaging, easy application, lasting power

Cons: A little drying on the lips

Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in Rose Wood

This liquid lipstick stumbled into my collection. When my mom visited me in the US last year, we went on a Sephora run. My mom always buys the same exact lipsticks (on accident!) so it was fun to introduce her to brands she hadn’t heard of and expand her lip portfolio, haha. We spent a good amount of time swatching Sephora’s liquid lipsticks, and chose the color ___. It’s a beautiful mauve-y rose!

After a few days, my mom decided the shade looked better on me, so she gave it to me. I use it often, and I always think of her when I do! It’s a great day-to-day non-nude that’s impactful but still subtle. And so feminine! As for the texture and durability, it’s wonderful in both categories. And for the price, you can’t go wrong!

Pros: affordable, lasting power, coverage, hydrating formula

Cons: None

Available at Sephora for $14

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in Jicama

I’m obsessed with this product. I loveBite Beauty’s products, but had not ventured into their liquid lipsticks. The day after Christmas, I went onto Sephora’s website to check out the sales—you know, not to actually buy anything….—and Bite Beauty’s liquid lipsticks were 50% off! I had been dreaming of the color Jicama for a while, so I took it as a sign of the universe that it had to be in my collection. Best decision of the year!

I don’t know what kind of witchcraft is in this thing, but it’s staying power is incredible. It does come off a little bit on napkins and glasses, but even after that there is still color on the lips. It’s amazing! The texture is wonderfully hydrating, and I love the size of the packaging—it’s perfect to take in your bag or clutch, or even in your pocket if need be. As for the color, I’m completely in love. It’s a subtle terra-cotta red that would look beautiful on any skin tone. It goes with everything! I would love to play with other colors in this line.

Pros: lasting power, high coverage, creamy and hydrating texture

Cons: Comes off on napkins/glasses, but color remains on the lips

Available at Sephora for $12

Stila Cosmetics Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bacca

Since the beginning of the fall, I was looking for more of a berry lipstick. I found this color from Stila and thought about it for a while. Instead of pulling the trigger, I chose to wait for Black Friday to see if something magical came up—and it was definitely worth it! Stila had a lip kit that included a lipliner, a matte lipstick, and a liquid lipstick—all full size— for $29. That’s usually the cost of a single product! On top of that, Still was giving an additional 20% off all orders. And, surprise surprise, one of the kits had Bacca as its liquid lipstick. I didn’t hesitate for a second and bought myself a Black Friday gift.

The color is spectacular, and exactly what I was looking for, but the durability was lacking. You need at least two applications to get an ideal amount of coverage, and as it fades away the swipes become visible, if that makes sense. For example, in order to draw the cupid’s bow, a lot people draw an X with the applicator. That X becomes visible as it fades.

What’s interesting is that I thought I’d end up giving the matte lipstick away, since I suffer from dry lips since using accutane 10+ years ago and tend not to get along with matte formulas. However, the matte lipstick in the shade Merlot ended up being my favorite product from the kit!

Pros: bright colors, easy application

Cons: durability

L’Oréal Paris Rouge Signature Liquid Lipstick in I Create, I Rule, and I’m Real

These have been my heavy rotation for the past few weeks! I received three shades complimentary from Influenster, and have spent the past few weeks testing them in several different conditions. I’m traveling for work at the moment, and tested the color I Rule on the day I spent almost 18 hours traveling form the US to Quito, Ecuador. I was very impressed by the coverage and lasting power!

I did have to retouch it a couple of times throughout the day, but it fades in a very subtle and pretty way. I have it in my liquids bag so I can reapply whenever I feel like it. (By the way, there’s a really comprehensive post on how to put together your liquids bag for traveling. Check it out!)

Out of the three shades, I Rule and I’m Real are my favorites. I Rule is a dark, mauve-y pink that is perfect for my go-to look, while I’m Real is a gorgeous high-impact orange red. I’ve used both colors often! I Create pulls a little too brown on my skin, and I’m not a big fan of browns.

If you haven’t tried liquid lipsticks yet and want to buy one that’s affordable and high quality, I highly recommend this collection.

Pros: coverage, durability, hydrating texture

Cons: None

Available at drugstores and supermarkets for $11.99

Today I can confidently say that some of my favorite lip products are liquid lipsticks. I love the precision the application, the durability, and the finish! Do you like liquid lipsticks? If so, what are your favorites? Let me know in the comments.

Stay Curious,

Nathalia
