Marc Jacobs made the beauty community collectively gasp when he announced his famed eyeshadow palettes were being discontinued. Turns out he was just making way for something new and better: the Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palettes (available at Sephora and Marc Jacobs Beauty for $49.00 each). These six, never-seen-before palettes are a reformulation of an already cult product, which was a bold move with an incredible payoff.
Here is the new lineup:
Provocouture (dusty plum and magenta)
Glambition (bare and bronze)
Frivoluxe (chilled greige and violet)
Scandalust (rust and warmed browns with scarlet)
Edgitorial (camouflage and reflective gold)
Smartorial (celestial cobalt and icy teal with prismatic gray)
As soon as I saw these, I immediately gravitated towards two: Edgitorial and Smartorial. Something about the punch of blues and greens after a season full of warm reds was really refreshing. Needless to say, I literally jumped for joy when Influenster sent me a complimentary palette in Edgitorial. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!
The packaging, as expected, is lovely. It’s sleek—the palette itself is very narrow and thin—but also has a certain weight to it that makes it feel luxurious. It opens and closes softly with a really satisfying click (is that just me?!)
As for the product itself, the pigmentation on these palettes is remarkable (pun intended). You barely need to touch your brush to the product to apply over the entire lid, or create a buildable, sultry smoky eye. Fallout is minimal, and even then, just on the actual packaging but not after applied. While the colors go extremely well together, the mattes are not necessarily easy to blend—this is definitely not a beginner’s palette. To be completely honest there were a few times when I got pretty frustrated with the matte colors and ended up with an ugly mess. All in all, I love the palette so much that it is worth the struggle!
According to Marc Jacobs, each palette features finishes inspired by four different fabrics: buttery matte velvet, shimmering satin, sparkling silk, and metallic lamé. The textures are perfectly balanced, and there are so many ways to play with them. One tip is to apply the sparkling and metallic colors with a wet brush—it’s amazing to see how they transform and become so much more intense!
Mostly, I love how practical this palette is. You can easily create a work-appropriate look but also amp up the drama as you see fit.
Have you tried any of the new Eye-Conic Multi-Finish eyeshadow palettes? Which ones are your favorite?
